Dragon Boat Races |
|

The Washington Dragon Boat Association sponsored by Red
Wind Casino will present its Washington Dragon Boat Festival
on July 4th, 2006 along Ruston Way on Tacoma's
Commencement Bay.
Pledges raised by the 40 participating
teams will benefit the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter.
"One hundred percent of the pledges go to this outstanding community
resource," said
Jim Clower, President of WDBA.
Presenting a stark contrast to the
visiting ocean-going Tall Ships visiting Tacoma that week, 41-foot
canoe-like dragon boats replete with dragon's head, tail and
colorful "scales" on the hulls and paddled by South Sound
businesses, civic organizations, churches and schools will power
through the waves. The sounds of drums at the front of the boats
will resound
as the crews of 20 stroke in unison.
The beautiful waters of the Commencement
Bay, spectacular Mount Rainer and the Olympics provide an ideal venue
for a dragon boat regatta. The event is an energizing team building
activity and is open to both men and women from ages 13 and over at
any level of ability.
We invite your corporation, organization,
or group of friends to enter a team into these friendly races. Bring
the family and enjoy the day's festivities. Whether you are new
to this exciting sport, or have been racing for years, now is the time
to get your team together!
