PERFORMS AT THE TACOMA FREEDOM FAIR JULY 4, 2001 FROM 5:30PM TO 7:30 P.M. ON THE
COMMENCEMENT PARK STAGE Maya Soleil is a group of six talented musicians
blending fusion with Afro-Pop to create a unique
audio-visual experience.
Electricity is definitely in the air when you see
Maya Soleil. The
performance is a combination of African, Jazz, Funk and
authentic African dance.
The group will make a special appearance at the
Freedom Fair this Fourth of July. “The
group will be adding some new songs for our Tacoma
fans,” said Rob Pastorok the band’s leader.
“The performance will also include a special
guest appearance by Mohammad Shaibu from Ghana. We are looking forward to performing for the celebration of
the Fourth of July.” This
band is a collaboration of instrumentalists from Africa,
Jamaica, Asia, and the U.S.
Maya Soleil’s high-energy performance is a hot
rhythmic mix of dance beats and fat harmonies with a
jazzy edge. They
blend traditional world instruments, such as African
vocals, keyboards, saxophones, flutes, balafon, bass
guitar, ethnic and world drum kits. The
group presents a dynamic show with colorful costumes and
dance, which is led by Moye Kashimbi.
Kashimbi danced with several dance troupes, and
has been performing professionally since age 9.
Kashimbi adds to the style of the music of Maya
Soleil with the combination of her native Zambian
language from her tribe, Lenje and her traditional and
modern dance. |
