Cole?lition

The group Cole’lition was founded in 1994 by guitarist Michael Cole and founding members Dajari Makena and John Anthony Cole. Cole’lition blends a wide range of musical styles, from gospel to funk, Brazilian to jazz to deliver their unique sound. Cole’lition as an independent artist has released two CDs.

This hometown favorite of Seattle/Tacoma has developed a reputation for being virtuoso in their musicianship and presentation. Cole’lition has shared the stage with national recording artists Roy Ayers and Najee’. Cole’lition also opened for national gospel recording artists BeBe and CeCe Winnans. The group has shared equal billing with artists such as The Whispers, Tony, Toni, Tone’, Freddie Jackson and The Ohio Players. For two years, Cole’lition was the exclusive Jazz artist for the annual “Festival at Sea” cruise to the Caribbean on Carnival Cruise Lines, where they performed with comedians Mark Curry and Tommy Davidson. The group has played many local venues such as Salty’s at Alki, McGowan’s and Jazzbones, as well as events like The Bite, The Taste and Fourth of JulIvars to name a few. Cole’lition also has been a great addition to corporate events and enjoys a great relationship with Northwest companies and charities.

In 1996, Cole’lition received a “Peoples Choice” award from Seattle’s KNHC radio for “Best New Jazz Artist”. In 1998, Cole’lition was nominated for a “KUBE 93” radio “Northwest Artist Award”. In 2004 the group was a featured artist on 98.9 KWJZ Smooth Jazz “Traditions and Trends” program. Cole’lition is featured on the "Rain City" Jazz Compilation CD benefiting "The Millionaires Club Charity" sponsored by Tully’s Coffee. The band is currently preparing for the winter 2006 release of their new CD on the Urban Mosaic Record label. The disc is a look into Cole’lition’s musical expression of life’s myriad moods and experiences, through smooth grooves, catchy hooks and tasty improvisational solos.
