Loose Gravel and the Quarry is a Tacoma based band that performs originals, classic rock and blues. They have been performing in the Puget Sound area since 1992. Its founder and front man, Steve "Loose Gravel" Luhtala, is the lead singer/songwriter, providing the heart and soul to their music. Referred to as "Gravel", his nickname came from the sound of his deep, gravelly voice. The Quarry consists of four musicians, including Steve Cooley on guitar and vocals, Johnny Burgess on keyboards and vocals, Glenn Hummel on drums, and Rich Nesbitt on bass. The Quarry is the backbone of Gravel's style of blues, with dynamics that teeter between a "whisper" to "thick and punchy". Tastefully blending Loose's original material with popular blues and classic rock standards, Loose Gravel and the Quarry appeal to many age groups and provide a groove suitable for dancing or listening. The band has performed at nightclubs, casinos, festivals, weddings and special events. There are two CD's available, "Boulder in the Highway", and, the most recent, "Around the Sound”.
