Metro Parks Dance Showcase

PerformING at the TACOMA FREEDOM FAIR

July 4, 2001 FROM noon to 2:00 PM

On the MARINE PARK STAGE

The cutest children in town will be dancing up a storm at the Freedom of July Freedom Fair.  These young kids starting at pre-school and youth level dance are part of the Metro Parks Dancers where they learn their routines in an encouraging family environment.

The young dancers will present tap dance and ballet routines as well as display some tumbling skills.  Velma Wright, who has been involved with Metro Parks dance for 18 years, instructs these dancers once a week in a dance combination class titled “Footloose”.  The 15 to 20 kids that will be representing the “Footloose” classes will be promoting the Metro Parks of Tacoma Lessons that are being offered at the South Park Center as well as Titlow Lodge Community Center.

The older performers will perform a ballet to  ‘Colors of the Wind’ from Pocahontas and tap dance to ‘A spoon full of sugar’ and ‘Axel F’.  The little ones will start with a song and dance of ‘Never Smile to a Crocodile’ from Peter pan and dance a ballet routine to Winnie the Pooh.  They will then combine for a ‘Big sister and Little sister’ number.  There will also be a fabulous tumbling exhibition by Naomi Smith and Patricia Duell; the tumbling leads.

For more information about the the “Footloose” and the Metro Parks classes you can contact the staff  the Titlow Lodge at (253) 592-52970 or South Park Community Center at (253) 5912-5299.
