PERFORMS AT THE TACOMA FREEDOM FAIR JULY 4, 2000 FROM 2:30 TO 4:30 P.M. ON THE COMMENCEMENT PARK STAGE Sounds of Seattle has described Maya Soleil as one of the funkiest and grooviest contemporary world fusion groups in the Puget Sound. Maya Soleil is one of those rare bands that combines talent, enthusiasm, and performance into a hard to define yet easy to grasp, infectious performance which will draw you out onto the pulsing dance floor. This band is a collaboration of music and dance from experienced vocalists and multi-skilled instrumentalists from Africa and the U.S. Maya Soleil's high-energy performance is a hot rhythmic mix of hot dance beats and fat harmonies with a jazzy edge. They blend traditional world instruments, such as balafon, djembe, and talking drum, with modern synthesizers, saxophones, flutes, guitars and drums. The group presents a dynamic show with colorful costumes and dance, which is led by Moye Kashimbi. Kashimbi danced with the Zambia National Dance Troupe and acts like a cultural ambassador for Zambia. Maya Soleil is currently celebrating the release of their new CD "Dance of the New Sun". |
